Chapter 11:
❂ I knew this creature wanted to communicate with us. It had a significance to this journey. We had to discover why.
When I looked into its eyes, I saw a cave and in the middle, a glowing pond. What was the owl hiding?
“Zarya, the more we follow this owl, the farther we are from Artem,” Aeslin warned me.
“I know,” I said, “but this owl has something we need and I'm positive it has to do with our quest.”
We made it to the cave. I was right all along. I turned and discovered everyone was out of breath.
We took a quick second to catch our breath and follow the owl. We couldn't lose it at this point, we knew it was in the cave.
Our first steps in the cave and we were in a state of confusion.
“Is anyone there?” Myrna called from the distance.
“Myrna, I’m sure no one is here but us and that damn owl,” Jinx said.
We were slowly walking through. It was getting darker the more we went in.
“I have a bad feeling about this, Zarya, I don’t think I can stay here much longer,” Aeslin said as she was beginning to panic.
“Don’t be scared, and it’s just the dark, what’s it going to do?” I asked her.
I felt her clenching my arm. It hurt, and then I could tell.
“Aeslin, you’re not afraid of the dark, are you?”
She was quiet, still clenching my arm. I tried comforting her.
“Look, just hold onto me, we’ll get through this.”
Just as we thought there was nothing but a pitch black tunnel, we looked ahead and saw a light. Was it what I believed it was? It must be!
I started to run, the others following. I heard the others telling me to wait, but I couldn’t stop. I had to know what was really going on.
We made it. I was wrong?! It was a blue orb just sitting on a stand. Beside it, the owl sat, staring at us.
“Zarya, what’s going on? This is strange,” Jinx whispered.
“Of course it’s strange!”
A voice! Where did it come from?
Startled, we huddled together, weapons were drawn.
“Oh calm down, I won’t hurt you.”
We looked around, wondering where the voice was coming from and we saw no person in sight.
“Silly girls, have you not bothered to look down. You’ve been staring at me all day.”
We looked down and realized that the voice was coming from none other than the owl itself. We couldn’t believe it, even I was in awe.
It began to fly up and it spun. Faster and faster it went and a bright light emerged from it and suddenly, there was a flash! ❂
